Lagos/Osogbo, August 16, 2026 — Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, erupted in joyous celebration on Sunday after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, the winner of the Osun State governorship election.
Shortly after the official announcement, Davido took to his X (formerly Twitter) account and posted a video of himself reacting with pure excitement.

In the clip, the Grammy-nominated singer is seen jumping, kneeling, and eventually lying on the floor in excitement as the results were confirmed. He captioned the post: “WE DID IT UNC!!!” (or variations such as “We did it, Uncle”).
An aide in the video is heard congratulating him, saying “Congratulations boss,” as Davido continued his animated celebration.
The singer, who actively campaigned for his uncle throughout the election season and repeatedly expressed confidence in Adeleke’s victory, watched the live collation and declaration on Channels Television and other platforms.
Adeleke, contesting on the platform of the Accord Party, secured 511,067 votes to defeat All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes. The Returning Officer, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, made the formal declaration at about 7:24 a.m. on Sunday at the INEC collation centre in Osogbo.
Davido’s public display of support and subsequent celebration quickly trended, drawing widespread reactions from fans and fellow celebrities. The artist, a key figure in the Adeleke family and a prominent campaigner, has long been vocal about his uncle’s political journey, including during the 2022 election that first brought Ademola Adeleke to office.
Supporters of the governor also took to the streets in Osogbo and Ede (Adeleke’s hometown) to celebrate the re-election, waving flags and chanting in jubilation.
Davido’s reaction underscores the personal and familial dimension of the hard-fought Osun contest, which ended with the incumbent securing a second four-year term.
