The battered wife of Pius Angbo, the Channels TV staff has begged the world to forgive her husband.
In an emotion laden public address, Dr Ifeyinwa struggled to appreciate the governor of Angbo’s state, Samuel Ortom for intervening and reconciling them.
The battered wife’s demeanour displays fright and uncertainties about what the future holds for her marriage.
An abusive marriage never heals:
Returning a battered wife to a violent husband keeps her perpetually in bondage.
This is more so if the the arbiter is an elder and one of of repute that she would not want to disappoint.
The wife will make a conscious effort not to shout out for help ever again even in the face of danger and threat to life.
It takes a woman, resolute, and determined to stay alive to opt out and run for her life. This is mainly because a wife batterer never truly repents.
On the other hand, it may be that the wife is verbally abusive and provokes him at the slightest opportunity.
To avoid public outrage or further provocation, the husband may take to alcohol or drug abuse or brave it and insist on getting a divorce.
In other cases, the man disappears completely with never t be traced.
There are instances where one of the couples loses his or life and unable to face public outrage, takes his/her life leaving the children with relatives that never planned to foster them.
FOLA@TheFavoredWoman· “By his actions and intervention in the Pius Angbo abuse case, GovernorOrtom just made every woman in Benue understand that the state will not rescue them from domestic violence. They will most likely be pushed back to their abusers.”
Eketi@eketiette· “In Nigeria, many women are beaten daily by their husbands/brothers/uncles etc. and when they report to the police, the police set up kangaroo courts, adjudicate and declare it a “family matter.” It’s no surprise that GovernorOrtom has done the same. Na Naija.”
Orieno Omamode@OrienoS·“People has failed to see that. The executioner of justice openly doing this hours apart. – The Husband No arrest, No consequence, Nothing. The wife is at his mercy to either be a beast or a prince. Why? Because this is what our society applauds.”
