Kano/Abuja – The National Youth Leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Sultan Bello, has resigned from the party with immediate effect, citing his exclusion from a key campaign council list despite his active contributions.
Bello submitted a formal resignation letter dated September 24, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of Ja’oji Gyadi Gyadi Arewa Ward in Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State. In the letter, he stated that the decision followed extensive consultations, careful consideration and deep personal reflection.
“After extensive consultations, careful consideration, and deep personal reflection, I write to formally tender my resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), with immediate effect,” the letter read. “This decision has not been taken lightly. I am grateful for the opportunity to have served and contributed to the growth and activities of the party during my time as a member. I sincerely appreciate the relationships, experiences, and lessons gained throughout my journey within the ADC.”
Bello specifically expressed appreciation to his principal, former Rivers State Governor and current ADC figure Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, for his guidance, trust and support. He requested that his name be removed from the party’s membership records with immediate effect.
Shortly after submitting the letter, Bello announced the decision on his X handle, posting “I QUIT.” He added: “Lean team apparently means lean on the people who worked, then leave them off the list. Anyway, resignation submitted. No hard feelings… just hard lessons.”
The resignation comes amid the assembly of campaign structures linked to the ADC’s 2027 presidential ticket, on which Amaechi is serving as running mate. Bello’s exit has been interpreted by observers as a pointed reaction to how the campaign team was being constituted, with the youth leader alleging that active contributors were sidelined.
The development adds to recent internal challenges within the ADC, which has experienced leadership disputes and other high-profile resignations as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections. There has been no immediate official response from the ADC national leadership to Bello’s resignation.
