A married woman in Osi-Igoba, Akure, Ondo State, Mrs. Stella Ayowale has taken legal action after her husband allegedly sold their jointly owned family house and car without her consent. He then fled overseas after claiming to be traveling to Abuja for business.
Married for three years with no child, Ayowale is alleged to be unaware of her husband’s actions until representatives of the new owner visited their home on May 26, 2025, presenting a sale receipt and demanding she vacate the premises.Â
Â
According to Mrs Ayowale, her husband, Michael, had informed her he was travelling to Abuja on a business contract, leaving her with N20,000 to cover household expenses for the week.
Â
She only realised the true situation when she was served notice by the buyers.Â
Â
She also revealed that her husband’s relatives have distanced themselves from her since the sale, raising concerns she might have been deliberately excluded from the decision-making process.
Â
According to Ondo State Govt owned publication, Hope Newspaper, a neighbour has provided temporary accommodation for Mrs Ayowale while she seeks assistance from her family and legal counsel.
Â
The case underscores the challenges spouses face in protecting jointly owned assets and highlights the importance of legal safeguards in property transactions.Â
Â
It was further gathered that Mrs Ayowale is determined to recover her rights through legal means as the matter progresses.Â
Community members have expressed sympathy, noting the emotional and financial difficulties involved.
