The wife of a young army officer Lt Samson Samson Haruna has denied setting him ablaze.
She said that the petrol and lighter that set him ablaze was purchased by Haruna to end her life but an accident caused the harmful substances to explode on him.
Her words:
Please Nigerians, I did not k!ll my husband, he did it to himself
My husband has been beating me since the early first month of our marriage everyone in the barracks can bear me witness on that, there was a time he beat me to the extent I had miscarriage this goes on till on the 22sept where he asked me to leave his house or else something will happen to me and he said I should leave without picking any of the things he bought for me during our wedding that he’s going to burn them down.
He left for work, and he told me he doesn’t want to come back and meet me in the house.
So, I didn’t go and when he came back, he comes with petrol and when he saw me, he said I should leave or else he will set me ablaze.
I was thinking that he was joking until he carry lighter, I called the commanding officer CO to report to him, but he couldn’t respond on time accidentally he mistakenly pushes the petrol with his leg and it pour on the floor and when the lighter fells down from his hand and it caught fire.
Then I ran out calling for help and he tried to go get his documents and the fire rise and burned him
