A 27-year-old survivor, Victory has narrated how her mother’s attempt to seek justice for her stepfather’s abuse was thwarted by the intervention of their church pastor.
She said that her mother’s initial silence, followed by a confrontation that was ultimately neutralized by religious counsel, leaving Victory feeling unprotected and her abuser unaccountable.

On the Lucky Udu Experience, Victory said that after she told her mother what her stepfather had done, there was an initial quietness in the house. She later learned her mother had intended to have him arrested, but the pastor of their church intervened, framing the incident as the “devil trying to break their marriage” and advising forgiveness.
She said, “When my mother came back, I told her what happened. She said, ‘Okay, all right,’ but then nothing happened. I didn’t hear a shout, everything was quiet and calm. What I did not know is that my mother almost arrested my stepfather. But the pastor of the church she was going to at that time said that my mother should forgive, that it is the devil that is trying to break their marriage. And my stepfather didn’t even admit that he did anything. Because the house was silent, I took the law into my own hands.”
