The wedding hall was full of joy and dancing. Everyone clapped as Sarah walked in with her white gown, her smile brighter than the lights. She had waited for this day all her life, the day she would marry David, the man she loved.
David stood at the altar, looking handsome in his suit. When their eyes met, Sarah’s heart skipped a beat. She thought to herself, finally, I am his forever.

The pastor began the ceremony. “We are gathered here today to join this man and this woman…” Sarah’s mother cried tears of joy. David’s family looked proud. Everything seemed perfect.
Just as the pastor asked if anyone had a reason they should not be joined, the hall went silent. Sarah’s chest pounded. She looked around, praying nobody would speak.
Suddenly, the doors at the back opened slowly. A woman in a red dress walked in, holding a small child. Everyone turned. Whispering started immediately.
The woman’s eyes locked on David. “This wedding cannot happen,” she said loudly, her voice shaking the hall. “Because he is already my husband.”
Gasps filled the air. Sarah felt her knees weaken. She turned to David, waiting for him to deny it, but his face turned pale.
The woman walked forward, her child clinging to her side. “My name is Grace. We married five years ago. This is our daughter.” She held up a small marriage certificate.
Sarah’s heart shattered. She could barely breathe. Her father shouted, “David, is this true?” The hall waited.
David stammered, “I… I can explain.” But the look in his eyes told everyone the truth. He had been hiding a secret life.
Grace’s voice broke with pain. “While you were planning this wedding, you left me struggling to raise our child. And now, you want to marry her as if I don’t exist?”
Sarah’s tears blurred her vision. She thought of all the promises David had made, the late‑night calls, the dreams of a future together. All lies.
The pastor closed his Bible slowly. “This marriage cannot continue. The truth must come first.”
David tried to grab Sarah’s hand. “Please, listen, I still love you.” But she pulled away, shaking her head.
Sarah’s mother held her tightly as the crowd erupted in shock and gossip. Grace stood firm, her eyes filled with both anger and sorrow.
Sarah whispered, “How could you do this to me?” David’s mouth opened, but no words came.
Grace stepped closer, handing Sarah a folded letter. “He wrote this to me just last month, promising he would never leave me.”
Sarah opened it with trembling hands. The handwriting was David’s. Her heart broke into a thousand pieces.
She dropped the letter and looked into David’s eyes. “You wanted me to wear white, but you covered me with shame instead.”
Slowly, Sarah walked out of the hall, her veil trailing behind her like a broken dream. The guests watched in silence, their joy turned into whispers of betrayal.
Outside, the cool night air touched her tear‑streaked face. She looked at the stars and thought, better to walk away free than to live in chains of lies.
