One of Nigeria’s foremost music legends, Sir Victor Uwaifo is dead.
The veteran musician died on Saturday after a brief illness at the age of 80.
Victor Uwaifo was born on the 1st of March, 1941. A native of Benin City, Edo State, he is known for his dexterity with musical instruments including the guitar, flute and saxophone.
The renowned music legend was awarded the National Merit Honour of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) in 1983 for his contribution to the entertainment industry in Nigeria.
He goes down in the history as the first Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism in Nigeria.
In his ripe old age, he went back to school and obtained a Bachelor of Arts graduating with a First Class and the valedictorian for the his set; A Masters and Ph.D in Architectural Sculpture, all from the University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria.
