There is a trending video showing a horrified Mrs Jayne Edidiong Ufot, daughter of Pastor Umo Eno, apparently in panic mode making a video call to her father.
From her message in the video, she called on her father to protect herself and her young daughter from the tragedy that bedsl her mother and her son.
Many viewers who came across the video have given various interpretations of Mrs Ufot’s message. Some say that the video which was recorded last year is a tool by the governor’s political adversaries and was only brought to the social media after the Governor decamped to the APC. It is said that it resurfaced to tarnish his image.
The Governor’s daughter is his Senior Special Adviser on Health, Safety and Environment.
On his part, Gospel Edoho, a resident of Eket in Akwa Ibom State who appears to be a close friend of the family, has clarified the issues.
According to Edoho:
Ufot Jayne never accused her father Pastor Umo Eno of killing her mother for ritual purposes. The insinuation is a product of malicious imagination. While Jane’s video was wrong and tense, it was more of a security concern, might be due to threat to her life or the current surge in kidnapping. She used definite statement like “do you want them to come and kill us?” Not, “why do you want to kills us” or that “you killed mummy”. Her expressions were meant to convey fear for her life, not diabolism.
Phrases like “Mummy was the sacrifice” are simply figures of speech, highlighting the risks faced by prominent families. As the child of a governor, Jane’s concerns about safety both spiritual and physical are understandable, especially given her past trauma of losing a baby.
Her Excellency Pastor Patience Umo Eno I knew was a prophetess known for her spiritual gifts. Many can attest to her virtuous life, and I’ve personally benefited from her spiritual guidance. Her life on earth was marked by purpose, and her passing is a loss to many. That’s the sacrifice, which should bring comfort and grace on the lips of mockers.
The Bible reassures us that God is aware of every detail of our lives, including the number of hairs on our heads (Matthew 10:29-30).
The video, recorded last year, is being politicized now due to her father’s decision to defect to the APC. This is a clear case of opportunism, where personal issues are exploited for political gain. Those sponsoring that video to go viral are not without clean slate. It’s essential to approach these issues with sensitivity of context. While Jane’s video may have been misguided, it’s crucial to understand her perspective and the challenges she faces.
