The story of an acid-attack survivor, Francess Chizzy whose uncle’s wife poured acid on when she was only 9-year-old has elicited deepsighs from many.
2004 was the year and the location was Awka Road, Onitsha, Nigeria and the time was 4:00 am.

9-year-old Chizzy was fast asleep, enjoying the early morning sleep made good by the cool breeze of the River Niger sauntering into their room. She was dreaming of how to celebrate her birthday which was 3-days away. She didn’t know she would spend not just her birthday in hospital, but another 18 months.
That fateful morning, her uncle’s wife, identified as Ebele had sneaked into the room with a container of raw acid and bathed her face with the dangerous chemical. The chemical took it from there, Shredding the mattress on which she was sleeping.
The acid nearly destroyed her life hence her survival was miraculous.
Narrating the shocking story, Chizzy said the original target of the attack was her brother, David. She said Ebele, her uncles wife had mistook her for David who was the only surviving son of her father, hence the acid landed on her.
Chizzy’s story, is that of a miraculous survival. She has not only survived, but has gone ahead to bag a degree in Biochemistry from the Anambra State University, Uli, Nigeria.
Her face was disfigured but that did not stopped her from being happy in life.

Taking to Facebook on Thursday, October 30, she shared a before and after photos of herself.
“The truth is, I almost lost my smile while growing up!! I wasn’t smiling often but I am glad I didn’t lose it,” she captioned the post.
