Nollywood actress Bose Alao has opened up about her experiences in marriage, revealing how she once considered physical abuse a normal part of marital life.
In a tell-it-all episode of Talk To B, the podcast hosted by Biola Adebayo, Alao shared a deeply personal story about her former relationship, with particular emphasis on the harmful normalisation of domestic violence in society.
āThere was a time I told my best friend, āDo you know that my husband did not even touch me? Not touch as in the other room, he did not slap me,āā Alao said, describing how shocked she was by the absence of violence. āItās not right. Biodun was like, āNo way, Bose, you are gone.ā I said no, I was happy he didnāt slap me and I didnāt have to retaliate. it was that bad.ā
Alao admitted that at the time, she did not realize how deeply she had internalized the idea that violence in marriage was normal. āIt was that bad,ā she reiterated, emphasizing how she used the absence of slapping as proof of a āpeacefulā relationship
The actressās story has struck a chord with many Nigerians especially women who have faced similar situations but lacked the language or support to speak up. Her account has sparked important conversations around domestic violence, emotional abuse and societal expectations placed on women in marriage.
Bose Alaoās brave disclosure serves as a wake-up call about the dangers of normalized abuse and the urgent need for awareness, education and support for victims. Her story is a powerful reminder that silence and acceptance can be just as damaging as the violence itself.
