Nollywood actress Bose Alao has opened up about her experiences in marriage, revealing how she once considered physical abuse a normal part of marital life.
In a tell-it-all episode of Talk To B, the podcast hosted by Biola Adebayo, Alao shared a deeply personal story about her former relationship, with particular emphasis on the harmful normalisation of domestic violence in society.
“There was a time I told my best friend, ‘Do you know that my husband did not even touch me? Not touch as in the other room, he did not slap me,’” Alao said, describing how shocked she was by the absence of violence. “It’s not right. Biodun was like, ‘No way, Bose, you are gone.’ I said no, I was happy he didn’t slap me and I didn’t have to retaliate. it was that bad.”
Alao admitted that at the time, she did not realize how deeply she had internalized the idea that violence in marriage was normal. “It was that bad,” she reiterated, emphasizing how she used the absence of slapping as proof of a ‘peaceful’ relationship
The actress’s story has struck a chord with many Nigerians especially women who have faced similar situations but lacked the language or support to speak up.
