The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested Bishop Ndibueze Okorie Onyagoziri, who is the General Overseer of Champion the Truth Cathedral.
He was accused of repeatedly having s*xual relations with a 22-year-old woman who had sickle cell disease in the state.
On Thursday there were reports that the cleric often engaged in s*xual activities with female members of his church who were going through difficult times in order to offer them help.
DSP Joshua Ukandu, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, confirmed the situation to newsmen. He stated that the bishop is currently being held at the police headquarters in Abakaliki while an investigation continues.
He said, “Yes, the bishop is with us here at the police headquarters. I don’t have any other information because the case is still being investigated. He was arrested on Wednesday, October 1, by our officers and brought to the state police command due to this matter.”
In a video that has gone viral on social media, the victim explained that she began living with the bishop because of her health issues. It was decided by the bishop and her family that she should stay at the church to seek healing for her illness through divine means.
She expressed her disappointment that this “spiritual healing” did not help her condition and actually worsened it. The bishop allegedly told her that having s*x with him for seven days would change her genotype from SS to AA.
Feeling desperate to survive a disease that had already claimed the lives of her three siblings, she accepted this proposition. After the seven days of s*xual relations, her health issues became worse, and she shared her concerns with her sister.
Her sister then intervened, insisting that she needed to return home since the supposed divine treatment was not working. The victim stated, “The Bishop repeatedly threatened to share pictures of our s*xual activities if I left him.”
After leaving the cleric and returning to her village, she discovered that her nude pictures with him were being shared on social media, causing a lot of reactions.
On the other hand, Onyeagoziri has denied having any s*xual relations with the woman. He claimed that his phone was stolen, and those who took it used Artificial Intelligence to create false images of himself with her.
He stated, “My phone was stolen earlier this month, and after those who have my phone failed to extort me, they decided to ruin my reputation. Those pictures you see are manipulated. They aren’t real.”
