Area Boys unleashed chaos on Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos this morning.
The boys in conjunction with area boys took on the police in dare-devil confrontation. The fracas caused heavy traffic jam even as the rampaging miscreants destroyed vehicles and property.
The sheer number of miscreants popularly known as area boys and brutish activities forced the police to release tear gas canisters to disperse them.
By about12:00 noon, normalcy had returned to the area while police remained to ensure sanity.
Men of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, say at least 20 of the rampaging boys were arrested and taken to the Area “M” Police Command, Idimu.
A claim that one police van was burnt has been debunked by the police. According to one of them, “no police van has been set ablaze. Its not true.”
The ban on Okada and Keke NAPEP as means of public transport was first placed by the Akinwumi Ambode administration on February 1, 2018.
At the time, they were restricted to certain routes including Iyana Ipaja. Unfortunately, they all soon returned like an invasion over the entire streets of Lagos including high brow Ikoyi and Victoria Island.Sanwo-Olu’s administration, over the weekend restored that ban to 15 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas.
