Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, has expressed deep concern over the wave of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The former Governor of Rivers State warned that no political party can survive in an atmosphere of impunity and internal decay.

Speaking during an interview on the current state of affairs within the PDP, Wike noted that the party has suffered significant losses in several states due to internal divisions and leadership failures. According to him, the PDP has already lost control of Edo, Delta, akwa ibom states — regions once considered its strongholds.
“We told ourselves the truth: we cannot close our eyes and watch vagabonds destroy our party. We must take decisive action that is good for all of us,” he stated.
Wike emphasized the need for urgent reforms within the PDP, nothing that impunity, if allowed to persist, would lead to the total collapse of the party. He called on party stakeholders, including state chairmen, members of the Board of Trustees, National Assembly members, state legislators, and council chairmen, to rise to the occasion and take responsibility for the party’s direction.
“As a serious political party, when things start to fall apart and no one is willing to do the right thing, impunity becomes the order of the day. No party can survive under such conditions,” Wike warned.
He further disclosed that he has chosen to take his political future into his own hands, encouraging others to do the same. “I told my friends that my grace and my faith are in my hands. Your faith should be in your hands as well,” he concluded.
Wike’s remarks underscore growing internal dissatisfaction and may signal deeper cracks within the PDP as the political landscape ahead of 2027 begins to take shape.
