Senator Ireti Kingibe of the FCT has said that she would not support her former husband, Baba Gana Kingibe, if he decides to contest for the presidency stressing the importance of generational change in Nigerian leadership.
Speaking during an interview with Channels Television, Senator Kingibe emphasized the need for younger and more vibrant individuals to take on leadership roles in the country.

“Even if you are starting off with a president who is not 40 years old, he should be, I think, going forward, reasonably young,” she said.
Reflecting on her former husband’s capabilities, Kingibe admitted, “I have always felt that my former husband, Baba Gana Kingibe, would have made an excellent president.” However, she was firm in her position that the time for his generation has passed.
“But if he were to wake up today and say, ‘I am running for president,’ I wouldn’t support him,” she declared. “Why? Everything has its time, and when your time passes, you give it to your successors — younger people.”
Senator Kingibe’s remarks come at a time when debates about youth inclusion and leadership succession in Nigerian politics continue to dominate national discourse.
Her opinion has sparked conversations across social media, with many praising her for being bold enough to advocate for generational transition — even when it involves a personal relationship
