Hafsat Abiola-Costello, daughter of late MKO Abiola has disclosed reasons former President Goodluck Jonathan did not honour her father.
Speaking during a virtual colloquium tagged ‘Integrating the Leadership Question,’ Hafsat said that Jonathan turned down the advise of the former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola to honour MKO Abiola.
She added that the former president was concerned that there might be backlash if he recognised her late father, the winner of the 1993 presidential election.
Hafsat noted that Aregbesola pressured Jonathan to publicly honour Abiola as a former President even before Muhammadu Buhari became president.
According to her, “There was a story that one of my siblings told me. You know that recently, President Muhammadu Buhari honoured MKO but Ogbeni had been working on it. He had a one-man campaign this issue.”
