The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Minister of Information and Culture has disclosed that its meeting with Twitter was cordial, flexible and not acrimonious.
He confirmed the microblogging website’s acceptance to set up an office in Nigeria by 2022.
The Minister said this when be briefed newsmen at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja.
The FEC meeting was presided over by the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.
He disclosed that some of the conditions for the resumption of business by Twitter have been met while others are still being discussed.
According to him, “They (Twitter) have shown a lot of flexibility, the conversation has not been acrimonious.”
Lai Mohammed explained that tremendous progress has been made in resolving the impasse between the Federal Government and the bird app.
In his words, “We appreciate the patience of Nigerians. I want to assure you that we have made very tremendous progress. We have met with Twitter both physically and in writing. We are actually almost there.
“The engagement has been extremely positive without acrimony, we have made it clear want we want from Twitter.”
