During the official distribution of 10,000 professional kits to health workers in Nigeria’s Southeast zone, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, found herself in an awkward and somewhat humorous moment that has caught the attention of many.
The moment was captured in a video that was posted by Channels Television.
The event, which took place in Enugu State, had in attendance, dignitaries from all across the region, including top government officials, parliamentarians, and the leaders of the healthcare industry. The initiative was part of a larger program that the federal government was implementing to improve the delivery of healthcare and to acknowledge the efforts of frontline workers in areas that were not adequately served.
While Senator Tinubu was addressing the crowd and attempting to acknowledge a number of high-profile visitors, including the wives of public office holders and state officials, it seemed as though she failed to acknowledge the wife of the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS).
It appeared as though the absence was unintentional; however, her response, which was delivered with a genuine mixture of self-awareness and exhaustion, generated laughter and later sparked criticism on the internet.
She stated, “The wife of the Director General of the Department of Social Services, they did not write that for me. We are both so exhausted; it is okay; I am aware that she is present. Today is the day that they are going to fire me. In addition to that, the wife of the CG customs officer is present as well. The Right Honourable Uche Kalistus Ugwu, who serves as the Speaker of the House of Assembly for the State of Enugu, together with his wife and other members of the assembly are included in this gathering. It is the chief judge of the state of Enugu.”
