Omoyele Sowore, former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) has joined a group of retired Nigerian police officers to stage a protest in Abuja, pushing for improved post-service conditions.
Operating under the banner of the Nigerian Union of Retired Police Officers, the group converged on the National Assembly premises and later proceeded to the headquarters of the Nigeria Police. Their main demand was to be excluded from the current contributory pension arrangement.

The retirees criticized the pension scheme, labeling it unjust and claiming that inadequate payouts had led to the deaths of several colleagues who were unable to cope financially.
However, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) voiced opposition to the protest. They advised the pensioners to opt for peaceful engagement and discussion rather than public agitation.
The PCRC further alleged that the protest was orchestrated to tarnish the image of the Inspector-General of Police and cast doubt on the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.
