Islamic cleric, Sheikh Abubakar Gumi has asked the Federal Government to give bandits willing to repent, blanket amnesty.
This, he said is to ensure that the current insecurity is tackled. The Islamic cleric disclosed this in Minna Niger State today, Friday while addressing journalists after his meeting with the bandits.
According to him, “The Federal Government should give them blanket amnesty, then if somebody continues, then we will deal with them.
He said this while itemising the demands of the bandits whom he said complained that they were being killed and maimed unjustly.
Speaking of his visit to the camps, Gumi said that “The outcome is very positive. We have many factions and each faction is saying ‘I have complaints and grievances – we are persecuted, we are arrested, we are lynched,’ said the cleric as he quotes the bandits.
He disclosed that there is positive response from those holding Kagara students and staff hostage.
Unfortunately, Sheikh Gumi had no information on the possible release.
Gunmen had stormed Government Science College Kagara, abducting students and some members of staff including a couple.
The principal who escaped, said they arrived in biliary uniforms and raided from the staff quarters to the student hostel in the midnight.
