Residents of Morgan Close, off Ranti Alani Street, Egbeda, Alimosho Local Government Area in Lagos State, have raised an alarm about the uncollected refuse that has taken over their communities for more than two months, a situation that has raised concerns about public health risks and environmental degradation.
Bissiriyu, an affected Lagos resident, said that the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) had not recovered the waste as they piled up for two months.

Findings show that large volumes of uncollected waste now line streets and public spaces across the area, creating a continuous unpleasant odour and worsening sanitation conditions. With no recent intervention from waste management officials, residents have resorted to dumping refuse in open areas.
The situation has turned parts of Alimosho into informal dumpsites, with biodegradable waste now constituting both an eyesore and a public health concern. The prolonged accumulation of refuse has made daily living increasingly difficult.
“This has become an emergency,” Bissiriyu told FIJ. He took to X to call on the Lagos State Government to intervene and provide a lasting solution to the refuse crisis in the local government area.

Residents are urging the Lagos State Government and relevant agencies to move beyond temporary clean-ups and implement a sustainable waste management plan for Alimosho.
At the time of reporting, LAWMA had not issued a public response addressing the reported delay in waste evacuation in the area.
