TheĀ National Bureau of StatisticsĀ (NBS) has reported a massive increase in the retail price of refilling a 12.5kg cylinder of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, which rose to ā¦21,010.56 in June 2025.
This marks a 1.46% month-on-month increase from ā¦20,709.11 in May 2025 and a sharp 33.52% rise compared to ā¦15,736.27 recorded in June 2024.
āThe average retail price for refilling a 12.5kg cylinder of LPG increased by 1.46% on a month-on-month basis and by 33.52% year-on-year,ā NBS said in its latest report.
According to the report, Delta State recorded the highest average price for refilling a 12.5kg cylinder at ā¦23,108.44, followed by Cross River (ā¦22,982.89) and Rivers (ā¦22,971.27).
On the other hand, Yobe State had the lowest average price at ā¦19,000, with Niger (ā¦19,242.48) and Jigawa (ā¦20,025.94) also among the states with cheaper rates.
By region, the South-South posted the highest average price at ā¦22,179.08, followed by the South-East (ā¦21,623.86). The South-West recorded the lowest regional average at ā¦20,402.42.
The NBS report further revealed that the average price for refilling a 5kg LPG cylinder increased to ā¦8,323.95 in June, up 1.92% from ā¦8,167.43 in May, and 19.49% higher than the ā¦6,966.03 recorded in June 2024.
Delta also topped the chart for 5kg refills at ā¦9,243.38, with Cross River (ā¦9,193.16) and Rivers (ā¦9,188.51) following closely. Oyo State had the lowest price at ā¦7,100, trailed by Plateau (ā¦7,200) and Yobe (ā¦7,600).
Regionally, the South-South again led with an average of ā¦8,871.63, followed by the South-East (ā¦8,649.55), while the South-West had the lowest at ā¦7,960.42.
The report comes months after the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) shut down 19 illegal LPG and category D cooking gas outlets in Delta State, targeting small cylinders used for domestic cooking.
