A housewife abducted alongside her daughter in Plateau State has reportedly given birth to a baby while in captivity.
This comes days after abductors k!lled her husband during a midnight attack on their community.

The incident occurred in the Kyaram community, Garga district of Kanam Local Government Area, where the assailants stormed the area, shot the woman’s husband dead and whisked away his wife and daughter.
Confirming the development on Monday, the National Secretary of the Kanam Development Association, Shehu Kanam, said the kidnappers contacted the family hours after the abduction to inform them that the woman had delivered a baby.
Kanam identified the deceased as Umar Rufa’i, who was killed at his residence on January 17, 2026.
“We are shocked and saddened by the brutal k!lling of Umar at his residence in Kyaram community, Garga area of Kanam Local Government Area, on January 17, 2026, around midnight. The bandits also abducted his wife and daughter, who are still in captivity,” the association said in a statement.
The group described the incident as shocking and unacceptable, condemning the killing and abduction in strong terms.
“We condemn this heinous act and express our deepest condolences to the bereaved family and the entire Kyaram community,” the statement read.
Rufa’i was buried on Sunday, January 18, 2026, according to Islamic rites.
Kanam said the association received fresh information on Monday, confirming that the abducted woman delivered her baby while in the hands of her captors.
“The report we received this morning is that the bandits called and informed the family that the wife of the deceased gave birth today while in captivity.
“This is very heartbreaking, imagining the condition through which she delivered,” the statement added.
The association noted that the entire Garga district has been repeatedly affected by banditry and kidnapping, with frequent cases of killings and abductions.
According to Kanam, “Despite our appeals to the government, the situation remains unchanged. We urge the authorities to take immediate action to address this crisis.”
