According to Healthline, Melanin “is what makes hair, skin, and eyes appear darker. Research has found that melanin may help protect the skin from UV rays. Increasing melanin may also help block processes in the body that lead to skin cancer.
“Eating vitamin C–rich foods like citrus, berries, and leafy green vegetables may optimize melanin production. Taking a vitamin C supplement may help as well.”
Black-skinned humans look younger than their light-skinned counterparts.
The higher the pigments the greater protection an individual has from short term damage from the sun as well as signs of ageing, like dark sports, deep wrinkles and a rough texture.
