Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate and ex-governor of Anambra State, has applauded Governor Zulum for spending a night in the embattled town of Marte, recently hit by Boko Haram attacks.
Obi made his comments on Monday via his verified X account, reacting to media reports that Zulum chose to sleep in Marte after the town experienced a resurgence of violence. As reported by PUNCH, Marte had previously been resettled but was once again attacked, forcing inhabitants to flee due to militant activities.
Governor Zulum addressed the media, stating, “Marte was resettled about four years ago, but unfortunately, over the last three days, it was ransacked and was displaced again.”
In his response, Obi lauded Zulum’s display of bravery and leadership, saying such actions reflect the kind of governance Nigeria urgently needs. He called on the Federal Government to take immediate action to tackle the security crisis in the region. Obi wrote that leadership should always be anchored in empathy, capability, and courage, noting that Zulum has exemplified these qualities and the central government should follow suit to restore safety and order in Borno State and beyond.
