More than 300 armed bandits stormed Makuku Village in the Sakaba Local Government Area on Thursday, attacking a police camp and stealing eight AK-47 rifles.
Sources who spoke to renowned security expert, Zagazola Makama, revealed that the heavily armed attackers, believed to be cattle rustlers with a large herd taken from Niger State on their way to Zamfara, initiated the assault around 1:00 p.m.
According to the sources, the attack led to a fierce exchange of gunfire; however, the bandits overpowered the officers present.
During the assault, the bandits set fire to the police operational vehicle, a Toyota Hilux, and absconded with eight AK-47 rifles belonging to the unit.
In response, Army troops from Operation FANSAN YANMA and other security forces were dispatched to the area to carry out search-and-rescue operations and recover the stolen weapons.
The troops are pursuing the bandits along their escape routes.
