Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi, the Nigerian On-Air Personality, has told the story of an encounter she had at a wedding.
She shared her experience as the MC at a wedding, where she dealt with the bride’s misbehaving father.
According to Gbemi, the bride’s father tried to embarrass her and irritate her on the wedding day, but she managed to take it in stride.
Her post: I wonder if most people who have “difficult” loved ones are aware. I remember MC’ing a wedding and the bride was apologizing to me ahead for her father’s behavior.
I didn’t get it until I stepped into the hall. He would march to the front , grab the 🎤 and yell at vendors !
The band was playing and people were enjoying the music. Guests were still arriving so I let them play. He marched to the front , grabbed the mic from the lead singer and screamed “WHERE D HELL IS THE MC??? GET OVER HERE NOOOW OR YOU’RE FIRED”
I smiled. Walked over, took the microphone from him and said “Everybody clap for daddy” 😀
He was 1) Surprised to see a female wedding MC
2) Was annoyed that I didn’t flinch at his behavior. I wasn’t shaking because he was shouting.
Instead I was smiling.”
