The Chairman of he Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Abuja Branch, Hauwa Shekarau is dead.
Her death was announced in a statement by the branch secretary, Prince Adetosoye
Adetosoye said that, “It is with a sad heart and highest sense of loss that I announce the death of our Chairman.”
Reports say that Shekarau died on Wednesday after a brief illness.
The secretary added that more details on the late chairman’s burial arrangement will be announced soon.
The deceased was a gender advocate, human rights activist, a professional mediator and a conciliator.
She had over 25 years post-call-to-bar experience in women and child rights policy and advocacy, conflict resolution, social research, sexual and reproductive health rights.
Sheharau graduated from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria. She was also the National President of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Nigeria from 2021 to 2015.
She also served on the board of ActionAid International Nigeria and the Nigerian Women Trust Fund, League for Human Rights, El Shaddai Widows Outreach and many human interest groups.
