Reno Omokri, who has been appointed as an ambassador, has revealed that he tendered an apology to President Tinubu for the harsh comments he made about him during the 2023 election campaign.
At that time, while hailing Peter Obi as the man that could replicate Dubai in Nigeria, Reno, among other things accused the President of falsely claiming to be a graduate of the Chicago State University. He shared a video of his visit to the institution to confirm his findings.

In his relentless campaign against President Tinubu, he said some derogatory things about him, called him a drug baron and a president that would bring down the image of the country.
However, Reno Omokri made a u-turn in October 2023, months after the inauguration of the Tinubu government. He diverted his attacks at the then Labour Party presidential candidate, and has been working with the Tinubu-led government, all to the shock of many Nigerians. He noted, just like Daniel Bwala, that he was only working as an opposition agent.
Only recently, he was confirmed as an Ambassador-designate and is expected to be deployed anytime soon.
In a chat with Channels TV on the evening of February 11, Reno said he withdrew his past allegations against President Tinubu after the Supreme court affirmed President Tinubu’s election as President.
He also stated that he dismissed the allegations after going to the Chicago State University and confirmed that President Tinubu indeed attended the university. He also stated that in October 2024, he had a private meeting with President Tinubu and apologised for all the allegations he had leveled against him in the past.
During the interview, he was taken up on the previous comments he made saying he would never work for the Tinubu administration as it is not in his DNA to do so. When asked if his DNA has now changed, Reno responded saying:
“No, my DNA has not changed. I am not eating my words. I never said I cannot work for Nigeria. As an ambassador, I am working for Nigeria. I am going to be an ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. āā
