The son of former Kaduna State Governor, Hon. Bello El-Rufai, has publicly declared his support for Shamsuddeen Bala Mohammed, son of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, amid ongoing social media exchanges involving activist Omoyele Sowore.
The controversy stems from the arrest of Dr. Abubakar Ahmad, a lecturer allegedly detained over a viral dance video.

Sowore has been vocal in advocating for the lecturer’s release, accusing the Bauchi State Government of suppressing freedom of expression. In response, Shamsuddeen Bala Mohammed defended the government’s stance, prompting backlash from activists and commentators.
Hon. Bello El-Rufai took to social media to express solidarity with Shamsuddeen, referring to him as a brother and stating, “You are above Sowore. He has been consistently unserious for the past 15 years. Keep protecting your name.”

His remarks have drawn mixed reactions online, with some praising his loyalty while others criticized the tone of the statement, calling for restraint and focus on resolving the underlying issue of Dr. Ahmad’s detention.
As the debate intensifies, civil society groups and concerned citizens continue to call for due process and the protection of individual rights, urging all parties to avoid inflammatory language.
