Today’s Local Government primary election in Lagos turned bloody as at least 2 people are feared dead while many left with various degrees of injuries.
Places where people were reported injured include Shomolu, Alimosho, Ejigbo. The fracas was instigated by thugs who were bent on disrupting the orderly conduct of the elections.
The disruption caused panic across the state where the primaries were scheduled for 57 Chairmanship and 337 Councillorship candidates for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The misunderstanding is alleged to have been fuelled by reports of imposition of candidates by party leaders.
Cultists and thugs are said to have had a feel day attacking electoral officials.
There were also reports that returning officers were attacked in Shomolu Local Government Area and Itire-Ikate LCDA by thugs who descended on the venues with machetes and guns.
The same scenario played out at Ejigbo and Isolo LGAs where the elections were canceled due to the violence.
There was noticeable presence of security agents at the APC State Secretariat at Acme Road when results started coming in from the voting centres.
Vehicles were diverted to other routes from Acme road except for those on the primary election duties.
