The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has announced a scheduled daily eight-hour power outage along two major transmission lines within its franchise area.
The company said the planned interruption would affect customers served by the Mando-Kumbotso 330kV and Shiroro-Mando 330kV transmission lines on specific days over the coming months.
A public notice issued by the company, KEDCO disclosed that the outage on the MandoāKumbotso 330kV line would run from January 17 to April 17, 2026.
Similarly, the Shiroro-Mando 330kV line will be affected from January 17 to February 17, 2026.
According to the notice, the interruption will occur on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.
The company explained that the outage was necessary to enable the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to commence the installation of Optical Ground Wire under the Nigeria Electricity Transmission Project.
The upgrade, it said, is aimed at strengthening transmission infrastructure and improving service delivery in the long term.
KEDCO, however, assured customers that not all areas would experience blackout during the period, as alternative supply arrangements had been put in place.
The company stated that some locations would be back-fed from other sources to minimise disruption.
It appealed to customers for patience and cooperation.
āWe sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to ensure a more reliable electricity supply across our franchise area,ā the notice read.
The announcement comes amid growing concerns by electricity consumers over supply instability, with many hoping the planned upgrade will translate to improved power delivery in the affected states.
