Pastor W F Kumuyi
The spiritual head of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, has issued a strong warning against any kind of disobedience, opposition within the church or any member trying to control him.
He underlined in a stirring lecture the holy duty of upholding order in God’s sanctuary and submitting to spiritual authority.
Speaking directly to churchgoers, staff, and his spiritual mentees, Kumuyi cautioned against the perils of questioning authority. He emphasised the importance of respecting spiritual authority at all levels. He claimed in the sermon that “you don’t go up against your pastor, your shepherd, or the one leading you towards heaven.”
Kumuyi used a striking analogy when he likened church leadership to a pilot operating an aeroplane. He clarified that Christians shouldn’t try to take over their leaders’ spiritual direction, just as passengers wouldn’t take over from a plane in midair. He proclaimed, “I renounce any member, worker, or spiritual child attempting to take control or manipulate my calling. Let it be known clearly and publicly.”
He explained that this strong position was necessary to protect the divine framework that oversees the ministry and was not personal. “People should continue to be teachable and obedient,” Kumuyi stressed. “My calling is from God; I cannot let anyone guide me spiritually.”
The preacher also cautioned about the dangers of being too close to leaders, claiming that it frequently breeds disgrace and chaos. He claimed that ministry leadership is a divine mandate and cannot be negotiated or influenced by personal preferences.
While many embraced his message as essential to maintaining discipline and spiritual focus, others have questioned how church leaders in today’s religious environment strike a balance between authority, humility, and receptivity to advice.
