Nollywood actress Victoria Inyama has spoken up about her healing journey after being rescued from physically, mentally and emotionally abusive marriage.
Speaking during an interview with Saturday Punch after a previous one with Chude Jideonwo, Inyama revealed that understanding her trauma through psychological knowledge and practicing forgiveness, gratitude, and letting go were central to her path forward.

The actress also spoke on the prevalence of domestic violence in Nigeria, describing it as often overlooked or normalized by society.
She said that abuse can be excused, especially when the perpetrator is wealthy or influential, and stressed that women can also be perpetrators, challenging common assumptions.
Regarding her own experience in a toxic marriage, Inyama disclosed that she was removed from the relationship by the police rather than leaving voluntarily.
For women seeking to reclaim their lives after years of silence and abuse, she urged focusing on personal growth and healing.
She said that stress from past trauma can affect both mental and physical health, and encouraged survivors to release pain, improve themselves, and make the most of the life ahead.
Victoria Inyama has three children with her ex-husband, Godwin Okri.
In 2019, she obtained full custody of them, after a lengthy legal battle.
In a 2023 interview, she revealed that she had initially sought shared custody, but the judge ultimately awarded her sole custody due to her ex-husband’s actions and the children’s preference to live with her .
Inyama has expressed deep gratitude to her children, referring to them as her “diamonds born out of the fire” she endured during her abusive marriage.
