A former military governor of Oyo State, Big Gen Olatunji Idowu Olurin (rtd) is dead.
Reports say the former state administrator died this morning, August 21st at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) after a brief illness.
Gen Olurin was a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and was also a sole administrator of Ekiti State following the impeachment of Governor Ayo Fayose and his deputy in 2006.
Aged 76, the former 2-time governor was born in Ilaro, Ogun State and has held many political appointments before his death.
He also served as Field Commander of ECOMOG Peacekeeping Force in Liberia from 1992 to 1993 during the First Liberian Civil War.
Olurin attended the Nigerian Defence Academy.
On retiring from the military, he went into farming and then contested the Ogun State governorship election but lost to Ibikunle Amosun in 2011.He is survived by wife and children.
