Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Mustapha
Former Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Ahmed Aliyu Mustapha, is d3ad.
Mustapha served as Comptroller-General from 1999 to 2003.
He retired from the Service in December 2003, after more than three decades of active duty.
His death was confirmed on Thursday by the Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, in a statement shared on his social media pages.
“Deeply saddened by the passing of Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Musdafa, former CG of Customs. A man of service, dignity & duty whose legacy will live on. My prayers are with Lamido Adamawa, the Musdafa royal family & all who mourn him. May Allah grant him Aljannah Firdaus,” Fintiri wrote.
The d3ath was also confirmed by the NIGERIA CUSTOMS in an X post on Thursday:
“The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, On behalf of the entire Officers and Men of the Nigeria Customs Service, deeply mourns the passing of CGC Ahmad Aliyu Mustapha, rtd OFR (Sardauna Adamawa), who served as the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service between 1999 and 2003.“
Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar wrote:
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji‘un.
“I received with deep sorrow the news of the passing of Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Mustapha, former Comptroller‑General of the Nigeria Customs Service and Sardauna Adamawa. His career was defined by devoted public service, unwavering integrity, and impactful contributions to national economic security.
“On behalf of my family and myself, I extend my heartfelt condolences to Lamido Adamawa, and all who grieve his loss. May Almighty Allah grant Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Mustapha a place in Al-Jannah Firdaus. -AA”“
Mustapha, an elder brother to the Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Dr. Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Mustapha, also held the traditional title of Sardauna Adamawa.
He joined the NCS as a young cadet and steadily rose through the ranks before his appointment as Comptroller-General in 1999, at the dawn of the Fourth Republic.
