The Federal Government has installed a full CCTV and security personnel surveillance on the Third Mainland Bridge.
The N40 Billion infrastructure includes the waterways as the Ministry of Works under the minister of works commissioned the project today, January 11.

The project was commissioned by the Works Minister, Engr. Dave Umahi including the unveiling of enhanced surveillance measures such as a dedicated surveillance boat, 240 solar-powered panels, additional gunboats and Hilux vehicles to strengthen monitoring of both underwater activity and the bridge corridor.
The Minister also directed the adoption of paver technology for laying stone base on all federal roads nationwide, reinforcing standards, durability, and quality delivery.
The state-of-the-art facility boosts security and traffic management on one of Nigeria’s busiest and most critical bridges.
Key highlights of the new security system include:
1. A dedicated surveillance boat for monitoring the waterways below.
2. 240 solar-powered panels for sustainable, reliable energy.
3. Extra gunboats and Hilux patrol vehicles to enhance security along the bridge corridor and underwater activities
The centre is part of broader efforts to provide 24/7 surveillance, curb speeding, prevent incidents (like past concerns over illegal activities or safety risks), and improve overall safety for millions of daily users.
Speaking during the commissioning, the Minister directed the nationwide adoption of paver technology for laying stone base on all federal roads. This move aims to raise construction standards, boost durability, ensure better quality delivery, and extend the lifespan of the country’s highways.
