Isaac Fayose, the younger brother of former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose has shared his opinion about why businesses fail in Nigeria and the role of government in that failure.
He said during a recent interview on The Honest Bunch podcast, that government should take most of the blame.

According to him, many Nigerians earn very little, yet they are expected to survive and act morally in a system that doesn’t support them. He asked how someone who earns just ₦70,000 a month is expected to survive or stay honest. “I spend maybe ₦500,000 a day,” he said. “So how can someone live on ₦70,000? You’re paying me 70k and don’t want me to steal.”
Fayose pointed out that police officers, for example, are paid poorly—around ₦150,000 monthly and don’t have proper pension or benefits if they d!e in the line of duty. Yet, the same government expects them not to collect bribes. “We are designed to fail,” he said.
He believes that if the government treated people with respect by paying fair wages, people would act better. But since salaries are so low, many feel they have no choice but to cut corners to survive.
