Beautiful Ghanaian actress, Juliet Ibrahim has cautioned people referring to her as a half-caste. In her opinion, it is derogatory and racist.
The actress who plays in Nollywood and Ghanaian movies insists that she is very Black African. According to her, when she is overseas, she is seen as a black woman by the whites who do not consider her European enough.
Among Africans, @julietibrahim regrets that she is also profiled as not fully black but instead, as half-caste.
She aired her frustration openly in her Instagram page. According to Juliet Ibrahim, the conversations became unbearable when she recently met a man, who told her she was not black enough.
In her words:
“I had a random conversation the other. day with someone and it was appalling when he mentioned passively to me that heĀ doesn’t see me as a #Blackwoman !
“HeĀ argued, you are not “blackĀ enough” your skin isn’t dark enough, your hair not kinky enough. And thus my siblings and I do not “count” as Black.
Half-caste by Juliet Ibrahim’s definition is racist and derogatory.
“Now this is exactly, what we are fighting to correct amongst ourselves and the world at large. I am a black woman ! When I amĀ abroad among theĀ whites, I am classified and recognised as a black woman, however, right among us Africans I’ll be referred to as aĀ Half-Caste ! Ā This is the most derogatory term to describe a person of mixed race or mixed ethnicity.Ā
“We areĀ referred to as mixed race or multi-racial ! Ā Mixed race people are not less black than theirĀ dark-skinned counterparts. So, let’s all say NO to RACISM, TRIBALISM, COLORISM and SEGREGATION. Let’s teach and train our children to grow up and accept people for who they are and not by the colour of their skin.”
