Catholic priest, Fr Kelvin Ugwu has lashed out at his colleague and current governor of Benue state, Fr Hyacinth Alia.
He was reacting to the recent k!lling of over 200 villagers in Benue state.

Ugwu faulted Alia for discouraging politician, Peter Obi from visiting IDPs in his state back in April but now waiting for FG to come help him stop insecurity in his state.
Fr Kelvin Ugwu wrote on Facebook:
I have read so many excuses on how the state governor has no power over the security issue in his state. According to them, the governor is handicapped on issues concerning killings in his state. He does not control the police or the army. Invariably, no one should blame Alia for the killings in Benue state, Nigeria.
Guys, any of you making such an argument should just stop.
We are talking about the death of hundreds of people in one night. We are talking about a massacre. Genocide.
Do you now see the reason I brought in the case of Peter Obi in the post that got many people from Benue hating on me?
So, it was the federal government that informed the governor that Peter Obi was coming into the state, and it was also the federal government that ensured that he did not enter the state???
Ok, since you people don’t like to hear Peter Obi’s name, let us use the names of cows.
So, is it the federal government that sent the vehicles and security to protect these cows in the video? So, cows can be protected and escorted because of the fear that people might kill them, but when it comes to humans, you wait for the federal government.
If the governor is handicapped as many of you are saying, does that not explicitly mean that he is USELESS to the state?
On a case of life and death, on a massacre that has taken more than 200 lives, we are here excusing the Governor and waiting for Tinubu in Abuja to come do something. One even said, if I am the governor I will do nothing. If I can’t do anything, I will resign. I can’t be that useless and still be called a governor.

Back in April 2025, Obi had intended to visit the IDP camps in the state. He was however prevented from coming into the state by security agents. In a chat with TVC, Gov Alia said Obi was stopped because he his ‘intention’ was unknown and that he violated protocols by not informing him in advance of his planned visit to the state.
In the wake of the recent k!llings in the state, Fr Ugwu argued that the bulk stops at the governor’s table and that he should stand up and stop the tide of k!llings in his state. He dismissed the ideology that the governor cannot effectively address insecurity in his state because he has no control over security agents. Fr Ugwu wondered if it was the Federal government who informed the governor Peter Obi was coming for him and advised Alia to block him from entering the state.
He further reacted to a trending video of a herd of cows being escorted by security agents in Benue state. He averred that cows can be protected and escorted by security agents but that when it comes to protecting lives and properties in the state, the state government choose to wait on the Federal government.
